Inde Motorsports Ranch May Recap!
INDE Motorsports Ranch Recap
Welcome to that time of the year. Phoenix temperatures are starting to heat up to the point racers could have private NASA barbecues on the hoods of their cars between sessions. Sounds like the perfect opportunity for a quick road trip south to Willcox for Inde Motorsports Ranch. This beautiful facility has one of the most loved tracks amongst NASA AZ drivers. Upon arrival NASA drivers were greeted by a friendly staff including a new general manager who impressed everyone with his genuine hospitality. Continued improvements coming from the track look very promising and we look forward to continued events at the ranch.

Saturday Small Bore
A huge group of drivers qualified for Saturday’s small bore race. In the first laps it was Pete Dimuzio lead followed by Jeff Wojnar, and then Team ArizonaPain.com. In Honda Challenge, Team FTW would come across start finish leading the first lap. Dayton chasing, gets a great run out of turn 2 as the HC drivers prepare for their in-flight movie down the runway. Lacking a significant difference in power, plus a few track maneuvers, Team FTW holds the lead. In 944 Spec, Team ArizonaPain.com pushed Wojnar, tailing very close. Within 3 laps HC catches the group and traffic throws a kink in everyone’s plans. Dayton and Tomerlin both lose considerable ground as they weave through the other cars on track. Jason Noel would take this time as an opportunity and makes the pass on Simon Pavlick. After post-race deliberation, officials awarded Eric Dayton 1st Place HC2 taking the podium finish from Team FTW.

Sunday Combined Sprint Race
On Sunday Racers enjoyed a combined small bore and big bore spring race. With the drop of the green flag racers blasted down the straight including Lou Lupo who’s power is instant down the runway into turn 3. Coming through the first start finish lap, Chris Willson was leading in his white missile. The modest sound of the turbo as it blasts through the kink and up into turn 1is perfect to match the smooth quick lines of the driver and vehicle. Following Willson is a closely packed group of Lou Lupo, Kent Porter, Erik Davis, and Mike Halpin. In the corners, Davis and Porter make it around Lupo, though he easily reels them back in down the straight. It doesn’t take but 3 laps for Willson to have a solid 4 corner lead. With all drivers pushing for position, Elliot Freireich and Rob Giorgio each find themselves stuck in sand traps. Safety did a great job of preparing to pull each driver from their traps while race control kept direction of the other drivers. Once out of trouble, the race resumed now with little gap between drivers. Eric Dayton in Honda Challenge used this opportunity to make a pass on Jason Noel. Lou Lupo was also able to make a pass on Erik Davis. As racers approached the end of the race, an incident in the starting line barrier would end the race on a red flag. Luckily drivers were ok as safety once again reacted immediately.

UMS Tuning Time Attack Series
UMS Tuning Time Attack fielded 18 drivers looking to improve on previous times and Records at Inde Motorsports Ranch configuration 4. With an abundance of time and limited drivers, each competitor had plenty of space to make their times count for the time attack. Unfortunately, a number of competitors had dropped out from the competition from mechanical failure. Here are the results.

HPDE
Thank you to all of the HPDE competitors that made their way out to Inde Motorsports Ranch. The out of town event struggles of traveling are always talk amongst drivers, but we encourage all HPDE drivers not to miss the opportunities to run some of these more difficult tracks. Tracks like Inde Motorsports Ranch really challenge the beginning drivers as the local tracks do not offer some of the high speed turns and elevations found at others. Adding the skills to tackle these conditions only makes each of us a better driver as we continue to progress.
